Foster and adoption aren’t the only ways to help a homeless dog in need. When you become a “fospice” (foster + hospice) parent to a terminally ill pet, you selflessly provide them with the love, care and comfort they so richly deserve in their final days.
Akira is a sweet pooch in search of a fospice home to call her own.
She arrived at LifeLine Animal Project‘s DeKalb County Animal Services shelter in Atlanta, Georgia last June, and has been in the care of this wonderful organization ever since.
Sadly, Akira was recently diagnosed with mast cell carcinoma – a terminal form of cancer. Her friends at LifeLine were devastated by the diagnosis, but they decided to stay positive, planning a special Spoil-A-Senior Day just for her!
Despite her many friends at the shelter, Akira longs to experience life as a member of a true family. Karen Hirsch, Public Relations Director for LifeLine Animal Project told iHeartDogs:
“We are hoping that a family will open their home and hearts to this dog, so that the end of her life can be the best part of her life! We will provide all of the food and supplies that this sweet and friendly girl needs.”
While Akira loves ALL humans, including children, she will need to be the only pet in the household. If you are interested in learning more about this special dog and what fospice care entails, please email [email protected].
